History
In 1968, Birthright International was created by Louise Summerhill in Toronto, Canada to provide referrals to legal, medical and psychological services, as well as a range of community support assistance such as financial aid. One year later, Birthright, Inc., was opened in Denver as a non-profit 501(c)(3). As Colorado’s first and oldest pregnancy center, it was created to help mothers with unexpected pregnancies transition from abortion-minded to saving the life of the baby.
Birthright rented a small house in the inner-city of Denver. It was here that pregnancy urine tests were done, counseling offered, and baby’s necessities provided to mothers of poor means. As the years progressed, it was thought that rent could be saved and equity created by owning the facility. In September of 1998, enough donations were received to purchase a 2160 square foot home built in 1890. The original shingles were still on the roof. Enough donations were gathered to pay $154,950 cash for the home and Birthright remained debt free.

In 2006, the Board wanted to expand their mission beyond what Birthright International authorized. So, the Board elected to move on from Birthright and changed the name to Birthline of Colorado.
In 2023, the Board believed Birthline would be even more successful if the mission expanded into medical offerings such as ultrasound and STD testing. But the current home was too small, lacked ADA compliancy, and had no off-street parking for patients and clients. With $1 million in donations, we were able to purchase the 3500 square foot building located directly across from Alameda High School at 1244 S Wadsworth Blvd in Lakewood, Colorado.
Today, the building is being renovated to contain two examination rooms with ultrasound, laboratory, counseling room, training center, and conference room. This medical facility will be called HiPeak Health where doctors, nurses, and counselors will be providing “compassionate care for women”. We are anticipating opening by March of 2025.
Birthline of Colorado will continue to exist to seek out donations, volunteers, staffing, and medical resources required to sustain HiPeak Health.
